My work uses magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to characterize brain structure and function in children. I am particularly interested in how the brain changes with age from infancy through to young adulthood, and how that development is related to cognitive abilities, behaviour, and environmental factors. Much of my work has focused on how white matter – the brain’s connections – matures across childhood and adolescence. For example, my group has shown how white matter development varies based on brain area, sex differences, and environmental factors such as prenatal exposures.
